The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department has proudly served the citizens of Shelby County since 1822. We protect and serve the citizens of Shelby County with 30 Merit Deputies, 10 Reserve Deputies, 6 Courthouse Security Deputies and a Civil Process Server. Our deputies and reserve deputies patrol just over 408 square miles and 864 miles of roadway, answer complaints and calls for service, serve civil process, warrants and investigate crimes and crashes.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and the Shelbyville Police Department operate a joint 9-1-1 Center 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
The Shelby County Criminal Justice Center houses the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelbyville Police Department and over 200 inmates in the 80,000 square foot facility with a Correctional Staff of 30.
Our matron and kitchen staff of three, with the help of inmate trustees, serves nearly 600 meals daily. Two full-time maintenance staff and one custodian maintain and clean the facility that first opened in 1994.
We also maintain specialized services with our Motorcycle Patrol, Fast Water Rescue Team, SCUBA Team, Canine, and Accident Investigation. Our department also has a Fatal Accident Crash Team that investigates serious or fatality crashes.
